Cost of Living Crisis

The rising cost of living has hit students hard, affecting their academic performance and overall wellbeing. At Aston SU, we recognize these challenges and are committed to supporting our students during this difficult time.

From soaring rent prices to the increased cost of food and utilities, students are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their basic needs. Therefore, the Vice President Welfare is actively working on several initiatives to address these issues and help students:

  • Never Ovary-Acting: This is our bold campaign to combat period poverty. In an effort to raise awareness and make a tangible difference, we are striving to break the Guinness World Record for the longest line of sanitary pads. All sanitary pads collected for the record attempt will be donated to those in need, helping to alleviate period poverty among vulnerable communities.
  • Wellbeing Packages: Understanding that many students are struggling financially, we’ve introduced the Wellbeing Packages initiative. These packages contain essential items such as toiletries, non-perishable food, and other basic living necessities to help students meet their day-to-day needs and ease financial pressures.
  • Wednesday Free Breakfast: Every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the ASU Pantry, we provide students with a variety of free food options, including fruits, cereal, toast, juices, yoghurts, teas, coffees, and some sweet treats.

Through these campaigns, Aston SU is committed to not only raising awareness but also providing practical support to students during these challenging times. We believe that no student should have to compromise on their health or wellbeing due to financial strain, and we are here to help.
